New Tech Tuesdays: Keep Things Cool and Collected with Sanyo Denki 9CT1 IoT-Enabled San Ace Controllers Tommy Cummings

New Tech Tuesday

Join journalist Tommy Cummings for a weekly look at all things interesting, new, and noteworthy for design engineers.

It’s getting easier to keep things cool and collected—well, at least when it comes to air control. Sanyo Denki touts its 9CT1 IoT-Enabled San Ace Controllers as the industry’s first controller that can remotely monitor and automatically control pulse-width modulation (PWM) fans to maintain proper temperatures of devices and systems. The brown wire on Sanyo Denki fans is designated as the connection for PWM speed control.

In this week’s New Tech Tuesdays, we’ll look at the Sanyo Denki 9CT1 IoT-Enabled San Ace Controllers and their practical uses.

Sanyo Denki 9CT1 IoT-Enabled San Ace Controllers are centralized control dashboards for regulating air control. The controllers can optimize airflow and static pressure for up to four fans by controlling individual fan speeds. The 9CT1 can help prevent heat problems with user equipment and reduce maintenance time—again, cool and collected.

That’s important for home ventilation, heat exchangers, air conditioners, humidifiers, and air purifiers. They’re also good for industrial equipment because of the harsh installation environment where fan failure frequency is high. 9CT1 controllers are also ideal for outdoor LED lights and digital signage that are susceptible to temperature fluctuations.

They’re discrete as well. 9CT1 controllers are about the size of two mid-sized picture frames—180mm x 135mm—stacked together at 50mm deep. The controllers and fans operate at a temperature range of -20°C to +70°C.

What Can the San Ace Controllers Do?

For preventive maintenance of equipment, the 9CT1 features IoT functionality, including an accelerometer (9CT1-A), temperature-humidity sensor (9CT1-T), and air-pressure sensor (9CT1-P).

9CT1-001 and 9CT1-U001 models feature wireless LAN. The 9CT1-002 works without wireless LAN. They all have manual and automatic control functions with four connectable fans and four connectable sensors.

In automatic control, 9CT1 sensor measurements can be stored in the cloud and recalled for auto fan control, which can contribute to noise reduction and improved energy efficiency. In manual control, the controller can connect and control a maximum of four fans and enable different speed settings for each.

As for power, the controllers have a power consumption of 3.1W with a rated voltage of 12VDC to 48VDC, depending on the model. For more specifications, click here.

Tuesday’s Takeaway

We’re always looking for ways to be calm, cool, and collected. In a technical sense, Sanyo Denki’s 9CT1 IoT-Enabled San Ace Controllers offers temperature-monitoring solutions to prevent heat problems with user equipment and reduce maintenance time. Now, that’s cool.
