New Tech Tuesdays: Advantech's MIC-710AIL-DVA1 Development Kit Introduces Flexibility Tommy Cummings

New Tech Tuesday

Join journalist Tommy Cummings for a weekly look at all things interesting, new, and noteworthy for design engineers.

Advantech is applying its industrial-edge artificial intelligence system design experience to meet the needs of AI developers. Its MIC-710AIL-DVA1 NVIDIA® Jetson Nano Development Kit makes the power of modern AI available for embedded developers, learners, and makers.

MIC-710AIL-DVA1 leverages NVIDIA Jetson Nano, a powerful, small computer that lets you run neural networks simultaneously for image classification, object detection and segmentation, and speech recognition, as well as support deep-learning trained models.

In this week's New Tech Tuesdays, we look at the features of the MIC-710AIL-DVA1 NVIDIA Jetson Nano Development Kit.

What's Under the Hood

Advantech’s NVIDIA Jetson developer kit—MIC-710AIL-DVA1—is a powerful tool with flexible I/O, varied peripherals, and accommodation for board support packages (BSP). MIC-710AIL-DVA1’s multiple I/O and various peripherals provide excellent flexibility, and after software development, enable users to convert the kit into an edge AI system using Advantech industrial design services.

The MIC-710AIL-DVA1 I/Os include:

  • HDMI
  • USB 2.0 and USB 3.0
  • Micro USB
  • RS-232
  • SIM card port

The MiniPCIe interface permits customization of the I/O modules, including 4G/LTE/WiFi/5G communication modules, CANBus controllers, and power over Ethernet modules for IP cameras. Furthermore, the exclusive "boot from external devices" feature enables adaptable software development alongside the hardware. Using secondary BSP development, users can boot from external devices—such as eMMC, Micro SD, and/or NVMe—without encountering issues related to the Jetson Nano's limited onboard storage.

Tuesday's Takeaway

The MIC-710AIL-DVA1 NVIDIA Jetson Nano Development Kit is a flexible and easy-to-use solution that enables embedded developers, learners, and makers to achieve cutting-edge AI development. The MIC-710AIL-DVA1 NVIDIA Jetson Nano Development Kit features:

  • Multiple I/O and diverse peripherals to support hardware flexibility
  • Exclusive “boot from external devices” option to empower adaptable software development
  • Dedicated Linux OS with BSP to integrate hardware and software with ease.
  • Fanless design for harsh industrial environments or outdoor use.

With Advantech industrial design services, users can convert the MIC-710AIL-DVA1 development kit into an edge system after the software development is complete.
